SELF BUILD HOUSE

This project embodies Garden City Principles by; using the latest construction techniques to create high quality modern homes that are easy to replicate; creating an open and spacious home; maintaining a sense of space and openness around it; celebrating nature; being collaboratively realized; and affordable.

The brief was to extend the house to the side to create a large open plan kitchen and dining space, angled in to face the centre of the garden. The extension would also include a small toilet/shower room. Environmental sustainability was one of the key drivers for the project, including the use of low embodied carbon materials.

The unique project works as a sustainable self build exemplar, demonstrating how simple low cost construction can be used to create exceptional and unique spaces that do not have a negative impact in the environment. Utilising the latest low carbon construction methods, offsite manufactured hemp panels will create a fully demountable scheme that can be repurposed with no waste.
